The calendar winter is coming to an end, spring is just around the corner.

The forecasts are promising.

However, the summer brings risks.

Munich – According to the calendar, it doesn't start until March 20th.

For meteorologists, however, spring starts on March 1st.

In addition to March, April and May are also spring months.

But what will the weather be like in spring 2022?

And does that give us a first glimpse of what the following summer will be like?

The beginning of March has been quite cold so far (as of March 9th).

In the first few days, temperatures in Germany fell below zero at night in many places.

During the day, an icy east wind made it uncomfortable.

Actual temperatures mostly felt much colder.

But that should change.

Spring 2022: From mid-March, temperatures will rise - soon up to 20 degrees possible

On March 9, the German Weather Service (DWD) forecast a nationwide rise in temperature for the coming days, thanks to a high pressure zone from Scandinavia to Croatia.

Even if the frost lasts overnight, according to the DWD weather forecast, spring-like maximum temperatures of up to 17 degrees on the Lower Rhine are possible by the weekend (March 12/13).

In Bavaria, too, you can expect almost double-digit values.

Starting next week, i.e. March 14th, the temperatures in western and southern Germany should level off at 10 to 15 degrees.

"With foehn effects there is perhaps even more in it," said meteorologist Anna Gröbel from

Wetter.com,

even more than 20 degrees.

According to this, a low over North Africa becomes “our heat pump”.

As a result, "subtropical air comes directly to us in Germany," said the weather expert.

According to the meteorologist, it could be warmest in the south and west, especially around March 16 and 17.

"In the north and east, the temperatures naturally remain somewhat subdued," added Gröbel.

The 20-degree mark will probably not be cracked there yet.

Overall, according to calculations by the US agency NOAA, spring in this country should be far too warm and very dry.

The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) agrees.

Their long-term weather model assumes that March will be too warm compared to previous years.

NOAA and ECMWF also forecast April and May to be only slightly above normal for this time of year.

Summer 2022: Meteorologist Jung fears "dangerous thunderstorms and severe weather summer"

While spring is expected to be warm and very dry, summer 2022 could pretty much fail.

Initial assessments by weather experts do not suggest anything good.

The NOAA meteorologists expect a very wet summer.

Weather expert Dominik Jung sees it similarly.

The meteorologist believes temperatures of 1 to 2 degrees above the average climate are possible.

"That could be very explosive," said Jung

Wetter.net

: "All in all, this could indicate a dangerous thunderstorm and severe weather summer." Especially in June and July, temperatures that are far too high for this time of year could occur.

And great heat often unloads in thunderstorms and copious amounts of precipitation.

So it remains to be seen whether the weather will really improve in the following year after the somewhat cool summer of 2021.
