Damascus-SANA

45 paintings by a number of great plastic artists who have had an impact on the contemporary Syrian artistic renaissance decorated the walls and corridors of Ishtar Hall during a “retrospective” exhibition it held on the anniversary of its founding.

The exhibition included works dating back 35 years, including the artist Fateh Al-Modarres, the pioneer of surrealism in Syria and the first to introduce heritage to plastic art, and Adham Ismail, one of the pillars of the artistic renaissance in the country, and others who formed an important historical legacy.

And the plastic artist and the director of the hall, Issam Darwish, said in a statement to SANA reporter that this exhibition comes to display the hall’s holdings since its opening in 1987 until the present day, as hundreds of plastic exhibitions have been held by Syrian, Arab and foreign artists to contribute with the rest of the public and private galleries in illuminating contemporary plastic trends.

The exhibition titled “35 Years of Ishtar” sheds light, according to Darwish, on some important experiences of artists who have previously exhibited and have a wide plastic reputation such as Mahmoud Hammad - Nasir Shura - Naim Ismail - Rashad Mustafa - Fayek Dahdouh - Nazir Ismail - Ghassan Sebaei - Khuzayma Alwani and many more. From the experiences of later plastic generations.

Regarding his own artistic experience, of which the exhibition contained a part, Darwish said that it is still developing and witnessing several shifts, the latest of which is the “Contemporary Arab Faces” group, which deals with the ordeals that the Arab region and its people have witnessed in the past ten years.

In turn, the plastic artist Osama Diab indicated that a large number of plastic artists presented their valuable experiences in this hall, which contributed to the selection and presentation of distinguished works and serious and continuous experiences, which are considered an important tributary of the plastic movement in Syria.
