50% do not support a military response from the West; 18% believe that Lieberman is the most powerful man in government Israel today

52% of respondents believe that events in Europe could affect Israel's strategic situation • 48% prefer to impose economic sanctions on Russia


The Israeli Voice Index of the Viterbi Center for Public Opinion Research and Policy at the Israel Democracy Institute is compiled once a month by Prof. Tamar Herman and Dr. Or Anavi, and is based on a representative national sample (752 respondents) of the entire adult population in Israel aged 18 and over. The sample is 3.59% The following are the main findings:

The war in Ukraine:

Is the West's response to Putin's moves appropriate?

 The interviewees disagree: many believe that the response that they will not intervene militarily but will impose economic and other sanctions is appropriate (48%), compared to 39% who think the opposite.

The proportion of Jews who thought that this was an appropriate response (51%) was higher than the proportion of Arabs who thought so (35%).

Military intervention:

 Half of the respondents (50%) do not see priority for Western military involvement, compared to 37% who think a military response would have been preferable.

Among people from the Commonwealth of Independent States, support for military intervention is even smaller than the rest of the Jewish public (32% versus 40%).

Israel in the international arena:

 About half of the respondents (52%) believe that the events in Ukraine can affect Israel's strategic position in the regional and international arena.

Fewer people in the Commonwealth of Independent States think so (39%).

Local arena:

Who is the strongest man in government? 

The public does not have a clear picture on this question, and apparently 39% did not know how to answer.

Among those who did vote for one figure or another, Finance Minister Lieberman (18%) is at the top of the list.

In second place is Mansour Abbas (14%), and in third place is Prime Minister Bennett (12%).

Foreign Minister Lapid is currently only in fourth place (9%).

The strongest in government?

 15% of Jews stated that the leader of RAAM Abbas is the strongest man in the government, compared to only 7% of Arabs. In the three political camps (among Jews), Lieberman is perceived as the strongest man in the government (left - 24%; center - 20%; right - 19%) On the right, along with Lieberman comes first place Mansour Abbas.

Government Survival: 

49% believe that the government will last at least until the end of 2022 (a slight increase from 46% who thought so in June), while there is a real decline in the rate of those who believe it will not last (33% today compared to 46% in June).

Corona and personal condition

: Half estimate that their personal condition has not changed today compared to their pre-outbreak of corona plague, 29% indicate that their condition has worsened while 18% indicate that their condition has improved.

More Arabs testified that their condition was getting worse, especially Arab men (49% compared to 22% of Jewish men).

While 40% of those who earned below average indicated that their situation is now worse, only 20% of those who earned average and above average chose this option.     

Readiness for another wave of corona:

 Half (51%) estimate that the State of Israel is prepared to deal successfully with another wave, compared with 42% who estimate that the state is not prepared for it.

A large majority of those who voted for the coalition parties believe that the state is ready for another wave of Corona, while among opposition party voters only a minority believe so.

The Israeli Voice Index, February 2022, was compiled by the Viterbi Center for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy at the Israel Democracy Institute.

The survey, conducted online and by telephone (completions of groups that are not properly represented on the network) between 28 / 2-2 / 3/2022, interviewed 601 men and women in the Hebrew language and 151 in the Arabic language, who constitute a national representative sample of the entire adult population in Israel aged 18 and over .

The maximum sampling error for the whole sample is 3.59% ± at a confidence level of 95%.

The fieldwork was carried out by a sample institute.
