A confrontation broke out today (Wednesday) between Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai and Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked over the policy of receiving refugees from Ukraine.
Minister Shai said in an interview with 103FM that Shaked's refugee outline is a "shameful solution."
In response, Shaked said that his statements slander Israel.
"Shaked's solution means that we are legalizing the 20,000 Ukrainians who are already in Israel, who are illegal workers. Whoever comes to Israel on his own - let him enter, how much can there already be? Ten thousand? Twenty thousand? I intend to raise it in the government." , Shay said.
The Minister of the Interior rejected the Diaspora Minister's criticism.
"Suggests that he focus on the national task before us for the absorption of tens of thousands of immigrants, and not on slandering Israel and undermining its immigration policy," Shaked said.
"Israel will absorb citizens from Ukraine and Russia on a very large scale also in relation to the world, expecting the ministers to be proud of their country and not to tweet irresponsibly."

The chairman of the Constitution Committee, Gilad Karib (Labor), also came out against Shaked's outline.
"First-degree relatives of Israeli citizens cannot be counted as part of the quota, and the State of Israel must allow their arrival without numerical restriction and regardless of the question of their eligibility under the Law of Return," he said
.
"The inclusion of twenty thousand migrant workers from Ukraine who are in Israel without a license even before the outbreak of the war as part of the refugee quota - does not constitute a serious enough reference to the acute humanitarian crisis caused by the war," Karib added.
