Corona virus: Federal government wants to “return to normal as far as possible” with corona rules

After March 20, far-reaching corona restrictions in Germany are to be lifted. For many, that means more normality. But the pandemic is not over yet, warns Federal Minister of Health Lauterbach.

Despite the increasing number of infections, the federal government sees Germany well prepared for the coming months with the planned new regulations for the corona requirements.

It is planned that beyond the beginning of spring on March 20th, mask and test requirements in certain areas can continue to take effect as basic measures.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) said so.

More comprehensive measures should be able to take effect in particularly polluted hotspots.

According to Lauterbach, this could be districts, cities, regions or an entire federal state.

However, it has not been determined when a region will become a hotspot.

You have to look at the overall situation.

"I still have hope that we can master the climb," said Lauterbach.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the nationwide seven-day incidence rose for the seventh day in a row, to 1,319 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

Buschmann expressed the expectation "that we will be able to control the situation well with this set of instruments".

But responsible behavior will always be necessary.

Lauterbach made it clear that the easing should not send the signal that you are simply living with the virus.

Chief virologist Christian Drosten from the Charité will now write an expertise on what possible developments of the virus can be expected.

It is specifically planned that the federal states can continue to make masks compulsory in clinics and nursing homes, for example, as well as in local public transport.

It should also be possible to order compulsory testing in such facilities for particularly vulnerable groups and in schools.

In general, according to Buschmann, the following applies in regions with a normal situation: »There we are largely returning to normal life with the exception of the particularly dangerous settings.«

In hotspots, further mask requirements, distance requirements, hygiene concepts and mandatory vaccination, convalescence or test certificates should be added.

Lauterbach said the regulations should apply until September 23, so that a successor law could be passed before the start of an expected fall wave.
