In addition to an increase linked to the Ukrainian crisis, the president of the E.Leclerc centers underlines the arrival of post-Covid inflation.

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a 50 cent increase for consumers on fuel

,” observes Michel-Édouard Leclerc, president of the E.Leclerc centers, on

LCI

this morning.

Diesel is on average 1.93 euros in Leclerc stations, reaching historic records throughout France.

It's not over since Michel-Edouard Leclerc warns that diesel will drop to 2.07 euros in its stores by the end of the week.

The SP95 will also pass the two-euro threshold, “

due to inventory renewal

”.

For his part, the CEO of System U, Dominique Schelcher, assured

France Inter

that he had not experienced “

in such a short time

” such increases.

If the international situation remains the same, "

this increase will continue for two to three weeks

", assures the president of Leclerc.

Eventually, fuel prices should be between 2 and 2.20 euros at the pump.

The distributor adds that “

if Europe refrains from buying Russian oil or if Russia decides not to sell any more to us, there is a risk of further increases

”.

Over one year, the price of pasta has increased by 70%

Michel-Edouard Leclerc assures him, “

fuel will remain at cost price in E.Leclerc stores and no margin will be made

”.

For his part, Dominique Schelcher specifies that Système U buys its fuel with the Leclerc group “

to be stronger

”, and that the two companies “

seek all possible alternatives

” to no longer depend on Russian oil.

Regarding food, the price of "

pasta has already increased by 70% over one year due to bad weather conditions

", reports Michel-Edouard Leclerc.

It provides for increases between 3.2 and 3.5% until the summer, “

fortunately, thanks to the

Egalim law

, part of this increase benefits French production

”.

Today, the surge in oil and commodity prices is mainly speculative

,” he laments.

This energy shock is also reinforced by the difference in the exchange rate between the dollar and the euro.

For Dominique Schelcher, it is an “

aggravating phenomenon: the euro is weakening against the dollar and we buy even more expensive fuel.

There is a gear that is not favorable at all

”.

In addition to the current context linked to the Ukrainian war, post-Covid price inflation should be added.

The president of the Leclerc centers therefore calls on French citizens not to store too many foodstuffs because “

overconsumption inevitably leads to an increase in prices

”.
