The policeman, who was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison, works for the headquarters in bureaucratic tasks

The

mosso d'esquadra

who starred in a wave of sabotage of vehicles on the AP-7 in December 2017, in one of the toughest stages of the

procés

, has returned to the police force.

For a few weeks, the agent has been assigned to the support team for the Mossos headquarters.

There he performs bureaucratic tasks, such as managing the paperwork of police seized vehicles or summaries of documentation, according to police sources.

The agent, JS, was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison for placing spikes on the highway that affected twenty vehicles, in the midst of the wave of pro-independence protests.

The police officer has spent almost four years away from the force.

After the conviction, which did not contemplate disqualification, the Internal Affairs Division (DAI) of the Mossos proposed, as a very serious sanction, the expulsion of him from the body.

The agent presented allegations, underwent various psychological reports, and finally managed to have his expulsion modified by separation from service for one year and nine months, according to police sources, which he has already served.

The decision depends on the general director of the police, Pere Ferrer.

In his reintegration, a "controlled environment" has been sought for him, so that after a period of "immersion", a new destination will be found for him, police sources explain.

His presence in the central building of the Mossos d'Esquadra, known as Egara, in Sabadell, and attached to the headquarters has caused surprise among some people in the group who consider that he committed a recklessness, which could have had very serious consequences .

“If there hadn't been an underlying political issue, such as independence, it would have been easier,” say union sources, who are grateful for the new opportunity that the agent has been given.

The sabotage dates back to December 2017. On two different dates (the 1st and the 5th of the same month), JS, 56, accessed the AP-7 at dawn and placed a sheet on the asphalt, which he made same, with spikes.

His performance caused a score of vehicles to end up with flat tires.

He carried it out "despite knowing that it altered traffic safety, making the road very insecure and dangerous and consequently generating a serious and imminent risk for traffic and its users," the sentence states.

To avoid being caught, the

Mosso d'Esquadra

used a vehicle that he bought with forged documents two months earlier, in November, and that he also insured under the same false identity.

It was the Catalan police themselves, through the information services, who arrested him on December 19.

For the crime of falsification, the sentence of conformity, in which the lawyer Javier de Benito, from the Vosseler office, sentenced him in July 2020 to five months in prison.

To which are added the sentence of one year and four more months for a serious crime against road safety, and a fine for damages.

The agent also had to compensate the complainants with more than 53,000 euros.

The sentence by conformity prevented the

mosso d'esquadra

from facing the six years in prison initially requested by the Prosecutor's Office.

Finally, the public ministry lowered his request, which the accused accepted.

The policeman was also given the extenuating circumstances of repentance (JS confessed what happened before the judge) and of undue delay.

When he was arrested, the agent had been on leave for three months for psychological reasons.

His motivations, linked to the protests over the independence process, were never fully elucidated.
