Hospitals, authorities and health centers in Tartous governorate continue to receive patients to conduct the necessary tests for early detection of cancer to benefit from all free treatment services during the campaign launched by the National Program for Early Detection of Cancer on the second of this month.
Dr. Maryam Siti, head of the Hussein Health Center in Tartous, pointed out in a statement to SANA’s reporter that the center had conducted data information and a prior survey of citizens living in its sector wishing to conduct special examinations to detect cancer, where 1,500 people were registered and contacted during the campaign period respectively, receiving them and conducting initial examinations. They are then directed to specialized centers to perform mammography images of breast cancer at the Radiology Center and to the maternity hospital for a Pap smear, while men wishing to be examined for prostate cancer are referred to the General Authority of Al-Basel Hospital.
Stiti pointed out that women over the age of 45 should go for breast cancer screening, while every married woman from 19 years old to 60 years old should get a Pap smear and these tests in general for those who have a family history.
In turn, Dr. Naam Younes from the women’s clinic department in the center explained that after the initial examination of the woman and taking some inquiries about her health status, with an explanation of the conditions for conducting the examinations for her, and after carrying out these examinations in the specialized centers, we receive the results with the attached medical reports, after which the process of communicating with her and following up the treatment will come in the event The infection is the result of a mammogram of breast cancer directly, while a Pap smear needs about five days, noting that all patients during the campaign period, if they are diagnosed with the disease, are treated free of charge until recovery, regardless of the type of treatment, surgical or medicinal.
Rana Hassan, who undertook a breast examination, expressed her satisfaction with this campaign and the organizational and health measures taken, while Siham Khader, who conducted the same examination, considered that the interest during the campaign period and the provision of all medical services free of charge prompted her to conduct these examinations.
