According to Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU), the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia wants to “do everything possible” to cushion the consequences of the sanctions against Russia on companies and consumers in NRW.

The head of government promised this on Wednesday in a special session of the Düsseldorf state parliament on the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Security of supply has top priority.

Düsseldorf – Wüst emphasized that he would support the federal government in any pragmatic solution that would replace energy supplies from Russia.

In this "new reality" since the war, however, solutions "with substance" are needed.

The rule is: "Calculate first, then talk." It is important to create relief for the citizens in the face of the enormously rising energy prices.

"A warm apartment must not be a luxury in the coming winter." In the next week, there will also be talks with the federal government about how to support affected companies - such as automotive suppliers.

"Putin has to pay the price for this war and not our workers," he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
