At the age of 84, Holocaust survivor Rita Borodiansky was involved in a war in Ukraine • The Jewish Agency worked to bring her to Israel • "Medical staff treated her"

Holocaust survivor Rita Borodianskyya has found herself in recent days on a trip to Israel, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

At the outbreak of the war, her granddaughter Jenny Melamed Margolin applied to the Jewish Agency and the Chabad House to rescue her 84-year-old grandmother from the Ukrainian town of Obruch.

Most of Rita's relatives perished in the Holocaust.

She lived alone, and with the Russian invasion her granddaughter Jenny worked to bring her to the country.

"My grandmother is an older woman with health problems. The whole family was very worried, and the situation was difficult. We decided that we must work for a rescue from Ukraine," says Jenny.

According to her, her grandmother took a T-shirt from her home and was transferred to Zhitomir, where she met with the rabbi of the Chabad House. That the granddaughter sent me on WhatsApp, "says the agency's representative, Rafael Helzer." Medical teams took care of her. "

Rita is currently staying at the agency's immigration center in Warsaw, where she met her daughter Ira Juditskaya (56), her granddaughter Ilona Juditskaya (28) and her great-granddaughter Maxim Obcherov (11).

The three of them also fled Ukraine, and will soon immigrate to Israel.

The chairman of the World Zionist Organization and the acting chairman of the Jewish Agency, Yaakov Hagoel, met Rita during a working visit to the Polish-Ukrainian border this week: "We are in the great humanitarian crisis of the last decade. It is exciting to find moving stories of family reunification."

The Immigration Center of the Jewish Agency in Warsaw is one of the immigration centers that the Jewish Agency and the Friendship Foundation operate in the countries bordering Ukraine in order to absorb the flow of Jewish refugees.

Since the beginning of Operation "Israeli Guarantee" for the immigration of Ukrainian Jews, hundreds of immigrants have arrived in Israel.
