The health authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia reported the high number of a good 50,000 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.
The number of 50,016 new cases published for NRW on Thursday means an increase of 12,842 cases compared to Thursday of the previous week and 7,785 cases compared to the previous day.
The seven-day incidence also rose significantly to 1346.4 after 981.0 a week ago and 1277.4 the previous day.
Berlin - For the first time in the corona pandemic, more than 250,000 new corona infections were transmitted to the Robert Koch Institute within one day nationwide.
According to the RKI, the health authorities reported 262,752 cases in 24 hours on Thursday morning.
A week ago there were 210,673 infections.
The nationwide seven-day incidence also rose significantly to 1388.5.
For comparison: the previous day the value was 1319.0 and a week ago it was 1174.1.

RKI registers 116,889 new corona infections
In the nationwide figures, experts assume that there will be a large number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data.
One reason is the limited capacity, especially in the health authorities, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent.
Among the independent cities and districts in NRW, Cologne was still at the top - with a further increase in the incidence of 2784.6 (previous day 2695.8).
This is also the fifth highest value in a nationwide comparison of all districts and urban districts.
After the carnival weekend, the new infections in Cologne had skyrocketed.
A carnival effect is suspected, but this has not been proven so far.
Cologne also had a high proportion of the omicron subvariant BA.2 very early on, which is said to be even easier to transfer.
The incidence in the metropolis of Cologne was more than double the NRW value.
The numbers vary widely across the state.
The incidence is lowest in the district of Unna at 409.5.
This is also the fifth lowest value in a nationwide comparison.
