Coming soon: Construction waste in household trash cans? | Israel today

2022-03-10T14:46:28.258Z

Dream it here: On March 13, the waste site in Herzliya will be closed and the contractors in the central area will be left unanswered • Chairman of the Association of Renovation Contractors: "We do not want to be criminals, but we will have to throw waste in household bins and on the street"

Dirty business:

Building waste bags will fill the "frogs" and household trash cans in the center of the country from next week.

The reason: the Gush Dan waste site near Herzliya, near Glilot, will be closed.

The situation that will actually be created is that from the west of Rishon Lezion to the "Avivit" landfill in the north, there will not be a single transportation site for dumping and dumping construction waste.

The process takes place absurdly precisely in the week when green construction has become binding and non-voluntary, according to a government decision.

Nevertheless, the only legal site currently operating for the benefit of renovation contractors will be closed on March 13, creating a situation where thousands of contractors will walk around with garbage bags in vans, with no option and ability to dump construction waste at authorized sites.

It should be noted that until about three years ago, a construction waste collection site operated in Holon - but it also closed.

In an urgent letter to the Minister of Environmental Protection, Tamar Zandberg, Eran Sib, chairman of the Association of Renovation Contractors, warned:

We do not want to break the law and we do not want to be considered criminals.

However, in the absence of solutions, we were forced to find solutions to the plight of construction waste transportation sites. "

"Do not want to act like criminals."

If that is not enough, the shortage of waste sites is expected to lead to an increase in the prices of renovations, since the prices of construction waste removal are expected to skyrocket by 30% in the absence of sufficient transportation sites in Gush Dan.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection responded:

"The mentioned station was closed by court order due to non-compliance with the land designation. The Ministry of Environmental Protection rejects the allegations of lack of solutions for construction waste treatment in Gush Dan. Currently, there are construction waste treatment facilities in Rishon Lezion, Lod, Hefetz Haim, Naan, Qalansawa and Netanya, in addition to a designated station for the treatment of construction waste in south Tel Aviv. In general, in Gush Dan the average distance between the stations is 15-30 km between the stations.

"By the end of the year, another station will be opened in Ariel Sharon Park, in addition to two more stations that will open by the end of 2023 in Kalenswa and Kfar Bara."

They added: "The Ministry of Environmental Protection calls on renovation contractors to continue to treat construction waste by approved and legal means and at designated stations for the treatment of this waste.

The owner of the closed site responded:

"Unfortunately, the closure of the site interrupted a continuum of R&D and innovation. There is currently a lot in the industrial area at Morasha Junction under TMA 16, which allows for the construction of an alternative site. We are waiting for approval from the municipality and relevant parties. "For the recycling of construction waste. As much as we can, we will be happy to establish the most advanced site in the Middle East and even in Western Europe."
