"Valley", a Canadian sniper who became a computer programmer, decided to join the Ukrainian army • "I could not stand aside when such a thing happens," he explained • His son will celebrate in his absence a year: "It was the hardest part of the decision, but I'm here for humanitarian reasons"

Valley, one of the best active snipers in the world today, may soon become a terror to Russian soldiers, having recently joined three other members of the Foreign Legion set up by Ukraine as part of the war against Russia.

The Canadian-French sniper, who served in the Royal-Canadian 22nd Regiment, was documented this week while at the airport, on his way to Ukraine.

In an interview with CBC News, the sniper said he refused to reveal his real name, even though his picture was not confidential, because he could not stand aside during the war.

"I could not stand aside when such a thing happens. How can one not help people who experience bombing just because they want to be European and not Russian."

One of the world's best snipers has arrived in Ukraine.

Wally left his job as a computer programmer, leaving behind a wife and child who is celebrating his first birthday this week.

"It was the hardest part of my decision, to go a week before my son's birthday. You can also assume that my wife was not really enthusiastic about my desire to enlist in the Ukrainian army. But I am here for humanitarian reasons. Within a week I became a computer programmer for anti-Russian missile carriers. .

The 40-year-old fighter served as a sniper in Afghanistan from 2011-2009, and rejoined the Canadian Army in 2015 in favor of the war against ISIS.

One of the snipers in his unit eliminated a terrorist in 2017 at a distance of 3,450 meters.

He is now rejoining the fighting, "as a firefighter responds to an alarm bell at the fire station," he says he feels as if he "sees my friend's property burned, should be helped."

Wally's wife noted that she was not comfortable with the fact that he was going out to fight again, but did not stop him, from her acquaintance with the man.

"I was not really excited for him to go, but leaving him at home is like imprisoning him."

So far, about 20,000 volunteers from 52 countries around the world have responded to the call from the Ukrainian authorities.

The fighters are drafted into the Ukrainian army, in order to be protected under international law, and they are attached as fighters and officers, each according to his training, to a larger Ukrainian force that is expected to start operating soon.
