A snow storm swept northwestern Turkey today, canceling hundreds of flights to and from Istanbul Airport and suspending the movement of ships in the Bosphorus Strait in both directions.
The Anatolia News Agency, speaking on behalf of the Turkish regime, quoted Turkish Airlines as saying in a statement that it canceled 179 scheduled flights to and from Istanbul Airport, as well as 34 other flights to and from Sabiha Gokcen Airport in the Asian side of the city.
In turn, the Directorate of Coastal Safety in Istanbul announced the suspension of the movement of ships in the Bosphorus Strait in both directions, attributing the reason to "bad weather conditions and low visibility to less than half a mile."
The Turkish meteorology said that the snowfall will continue until the beginning of next week.
