Tens of thousands of people are fleeing the cruel war in Ukraine to Germany.

The CSU and Greens demand that the admission must be "humane" - and see problems.

Berlin/Munich - According to the UN, more than 2.5 million people have fled abroad from the Ukraine conflict - German authorities registered 110,000 refugees (

as of March 11

).

But in view of the appalling conditions in some cities and fears of large-scale Russian attacks as the war progresses, this number could rise rapidly.

At the request of

Merkur.de

, the Union urgently warns of major deficiencies in the provisions of the traffic light coalition.

The Greens in the Bundestag see the right approaches - but also a need for action.

Among other things in the form of money for important aid projects in Germany.

Both factions have a particular eye on the many women and children who have fled.

“Of course we must provide protection in Europe and Germany to people fleeing Putin's bombs.

But helpfulness alone is not enough, ”said Union parliamentary group Vice President Andrea Lindholz on Friday.

It is doubtful whether Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) understood the seriousness of the situation.

War in Ukraine: tens of thousands of refugees in Germany - Union worries about arriving women

Lindholz complained that the coordination and help for the municipalities was starting to be far too sluggish: "humane reception" and nationwide orderly procedures were needed.

In fact, chaotic conditions prevailed in Berlin, for example, when refugees were initially admitted - human traffickers already seemed to be taking advantage of the chaos and "taking unsuspecting women and girls into their clutches," warned the CSU politician.

The police recently warned of dubious offers of accommodation.

Similar to CDU leader Friedrich Merz before him, Lindholz also called for a “systematic initial registration” of those arriving.

"We must know who is coming to us," she emphasized;

a “special register” is needed.

Ukraine war: Greens call for "quick action" for refugees in Germany - and more money

Filiz Polat, migration expert and parliamentary director of the Greens*, called for

“quick action” from the traffic light government at

Merkur.de : the federal and state governments would have to contribute to the costs of receiving and caring for the war refugees, she said.

Polat also had the benefits for Ukraine refugees in mind: They should not fall into the “special system for asylum seeker benefits”, but would have to receive benefits under the Social Security Code “immediately” after receiving protection status.

For years, the European Union has been treading water when it comes to reforming the common asylum system.

Senator: Federal money for housing refugees

Berlin's finance senator Daniel Wesener (Greens) has called for the federal government to pay more for the costs of care and accommodation for refugees from Ukraine.

“Berlin is doing everything these days to at least alleviate the plight of the Ukrainian refugees.

But we are also dependent on solidarity when it comes to distributing accommodation and financing," said Wesener on Thursday.

The Greens also pointed out a serious difference to the flight year 2015: The refugees are "a large majority of women, children and old people".

Special help is therefore necessary - for example through trauma centers that could help with the processing of "the most terrible escape experiences".

Without additional help, however, the psychosocial centers would likely be overwhelmed.

And more funds are also needed for integration and language courses and childcare.

Polat gave a positive assessment of Faeser's efforts to introduce the "mass influx" clause at EU level.

But like Lindholz, she saw failures of the traffic light in the coordination of aid in Germany: "It is important now that the federal government takes on the task of coordinating the national responsibility of the federal, state and local authorities more closely," she emphasized.

Lindholz, meanwhile, also missed a remedy quickly introduced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD)* in the Corona crisis on the Ukraine question.

"A central federal crisis management team should have been set up long ago to deal with these issues in a bundle," she said.

Lindholz's main appeal was aimed at Faeser: "The Federal Minister of the Interior must finally wake up and lead."

Lindholz named a long series of open questions: The Union parliamentary group leader called for procedures to distribute the refugees to the federal states - but also within the EU.

The federal states and municipalities should also be better involved.

After all, they did the main work of accommodation and care.

At least in terms of the distribution of the arrivals, there was movement on Friday.

After a conference with the state interior ministers and representatives of the local authorities, Faeser explained that refugees who have no connection to family or friends should be distributed among the states “increasingly according to the Königstein key”.

This mechanism is based on the tax revenues and the population of the federal states.

Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) also promised Ukrainian refugees help with a possible job search.

"Many of the people will stay longer," he told the

Handelsblatt

.

“That is why we will also open up our labor market.

It is now important that we quickly offer opportunities to learn the German language." (
