Holzkirchen – In order to send a signal for peace and solidarity during the Ukraine war, there were silent protests in Holzkirchen.

A fundraiser is also in progress.

Around 200 people recently lit lights for peace on the forecourt of Kultur im Oberbräu in Holzkirchen.

As District Administrator Olaf von Löwis announced at the solidarity rally, a bus with the first refugees from Ukraine had arrived in Miesbach shortly before.

We were able to prepare for this and immediately took good care of those seeking protection.

Kultur im Oberbräu shone in the Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow when Mayor Christoph Schmid clearly called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the aggression and the war immediately and to immediately recognize Ukraine's sovereignty under international law.

Strong and hopeful sign

In addition to many candles, there were people everywhere on the square who showed themselves with blue and yellow hearts, flags and small banners.

Finally, to applause, Schmid thanked everyone who had come for a strong and hopeful sign of solidarity.

Referring to the violently crushed anti-war demos in Russia, District Administrator von Löwis said: "Demonstrating for peace and freedom is incredibly important." He also condemned Putin for sending young soldiers into an illegal war and death, some of whom don't even know what they're doing there.

Moving words from the district administrator

"I am deeply shocked and tears come to my eyes when I look at the pictures of the devastated Ukraine and the suffering of the civilian population," said von Löwis, visibly affected.

He paid tribute to the Ukrainian people who, in this situation, are still bravely, bravely and confidently fighting for freedom and democracy.

He called on the rally participants: “Please continue to help as well as you have done so far.

Our hearts are with the Ukrainian people.”

In order to coordinate the offers of help, the district has set up a portal on its website.

Among other things, they are looking for people who speak Russian or Ukrainian and would like to volunteer as translators.

But adequate accommodation is also needed.

In Holzkirchen, too, young and old clearly expressed their desire for peace and freedom in the Ukraine.

For logistical reasons, before making donations in kind, you should check what is really needed.

With regard to monetary donations, the Miesbach district office refers to initiatives such as “Holzkirchen hilft” or one of the well-known, reputable aid organizations.

Appeal for donations for refugees from Ukraine

The association "Holzkirchen helps" starts a fundraising campaign for refugees from Ukraine.

"We were all very moved by the terrible pictures and reports about the fate and suffering of the fleeing women and children," the association explains.

Many people show their solidarity with the refugees and want to help.

"The local aid organization Holzkirchen helps also receives numerous inquiries as to whether and how they can help," explains the association.

After discussions with district administrator Olaf von Löwis, Holzkirchen's mayor Christoph Schmid and Wolfgang Huber, founder and honorary president of the association, "we decided in a special meeting of the board to launch a fundraising campaign," reports association chairman Marc Gerster.

Equipment and needs of daily life

The aim of the Ukraine special donation campaign is to support those refugees who will find accommodation in the municipalities of the Miesbach district.

The basic equipment and needs of daily life are to be financed.

100 percent of the donations are to be used for the refugees or their host families.

"The association Holzkirchen helps has already experienced in many actions how willing the citizens are to help here in the district and would now like to bundle this with this special donation campaign," says secretary Sabine Gerster.

Donations can be transferred to account DE45700202706440222666 with the keyword "Ukraine".

Anyone who would like to get involved with donations in kind can find more information at the district office at www.landkreis-miesbach.de.
