A model of the new school center as it was presented to the public in December 2017: on the left are the buildings for the future elementary school and secondary school, with sports areas in the background.

On the right an open space has been worked in, on which a new sports field should be situated.

It is the area where, among other things, the so-called long building is currently located.

Now there are thoughts of doing without the sports field as a replacement for the overbuilt Jahnplatz.

This weekend the market town council is going into retreat.

Due to the current situation, there will be a topic to be discussed that is currently particularly important to the mayor: leaks.

Markt Schwaben – Mayor Michael Stolze and members of the market town council received mail from unusual senders on Friday.

Mona Braun, Wolfgang Eiba and Franz Haslbeck - three citizens who are close to the local free voters - address the possibility that the new Jahn sports field planned as part of the ongoing school building could possibly be "used elsewhere".

We're talking about residential development.

In the one-and-a-half-page open letter that EZ has received, the three Markt Schwabeners defend the need for a grass sports field in the immediate vicinity of the school center and at the same time recall earlier promises.

Years ago, Mona Braun, for example, was the spokeswoman for a citizens' initiative against building on the old Jahnplatz.

As a reminder, it never came about.

The timing of the publication of the open letter was by no means randomly chosen.

This weekend, the municipal councils at Ammersee are meeting for a retreat that will deal with legal issues, among other things, but also with questions about how the place as a whole should develop.

Open letter is causing excitement behind the scenes these days

Now, however, it seems that the group will also have to agree on how to deal with each other.

In particular, it will probably also be a question of why things from non-public meetings always find their way out.

The Free Voters, to which the signatories of the letter belong, possibly a source of indiscretion in the matter of Jahnsportplatz?

The local chairman Peter Widmann firmly rejects such connections.

Braun, Eiba and Haslbeck are well connected locally, he says.

But adds that from his point of view, unlaid eggs would obviously be debated publicly here.

A final discussion on the matter has not yet taken place.

In an EZ phone call, Widmann also made it clear that the Free Voters had never seen themselves as a group that laid down uniform lines.

Without already knowing the content of the letter, it could well be that he agrees with the suggestion of the three.

Citizens fear the loss of the new sports field

Third Mayor Raphael Brandes said that he had been approached on the street several times in the past few days.

In a conversation with Mayor Michael Stolze, Brandes pointed out, in his own words, that the Greens were not responsible for the fact that a child might have literally fallen into the well here.

And then there was this: Before the council meeting two weeks ago, Stolze had a non-public situation created for a good quarter of an hour because of a Greens motion.

According to Brandes, it was about a possible laying of rain drainage under the new sports field.

There was no talk of building.

The motion only referred to public debate on this item on the agenda.

There was no majority for it.

The authors of the open letter reply that none of this has anything to do with maximum transparency, as was rumored in the run-up to the 2020 local election campaign.

And wish for the exam a lot of creative spirit and a certain resistance to "consulting specialists".

A new development area instead of a sports field?

A still immature mind game for the proud

When asked, Michael Stolze said he was upset about the indiscretions in this matter.

He also used the word breach of trust.

He dismissed the accusation of not acting transparently.

According to his self-image, it is not appropriate to discuss completely immature things in public.

He had started as mayor to align local politics more strategically than before and thus turn things around for the better.

And as in the free economy, this also includes being able to think about things together without them being trumpeted right away.

Here he only wanted to do the first delicate considerations in a closed circle,

to focus on a 9000 square meter area near the town center, also in view of the financial situation of the market town and the local housing shortage, and to examine what options there are.

After all, according to Stolze's findings, it seems certain that a change in project planning - the mayor speaks of a "course correction" - is still theoretically possible, at least.
