The company concerned, Netzsch Feinmahltechnik, from Selb, has now also commented on the fire in its laboratory.

On Thursday, the fire “ate through the affected building, in which 2,500 liters of combustible materials were stored.” The employees in the area reacted quickly and were able to get everyone to safety.

"The fire brigade was able to cool the hazardous material barrels and thus avoid explosions," it said.

The damage will probably be in the millions, said the police.

About 50 percent of the laboratory capacity was damaged, but not the hazardous materials store, the company said.

The roof of the building is said to be in danger of collapsing.

According to the current state of knowledge, the fire has had no impact on the operative business.
