The top gastronomy in Bavaria has taken off after the months of Corona break and was happy about Guide Michelin stars.

One Munich restaurant in particular won.

Grassau/Munich – From zero to one hundred;

Hardly anyone in the culinary world has had a start like that of Edip Sigl (37): Just a few months after the gourmet restaurant "Es:senz" opened in Grassau, Sigl has already won two of the coveted Michelin stars.

His concept convinced the testers from the Michelin Guide.

The credo of the 37-year-old top chef is: pure Chiemgau.

"Here in the foothills of the Alps I can get everything I need for first-class cuisine." At Es:senz there is a story behind every dish, the story of which culminates on the plate.

The top chef describes the past few weeks and months as "high-performance sport at the stove".

Together with his team, he achieved an "incredible achievement", as he proudly said at the award ceremony in Hamburg.

Star chef Sigl moves from the city to the Chiemgau

The fact that Edip Sigl exchanged the metropolis of Munich for the Chiemgau was “a logical step in his life” for him: He follows in the footsteps of Heinz Winkler, who once dared to work in the country as a star chef.

The "Residenz Winkler" is only a few kilometers away from the Essen:senz.

Edip Sigl had previously been at the stove in the Munich two-star restaurant "Les Deux".

The restaurant not only had to get over its departure last year, but now also the loss of a star.

Michelin Guide in Munich: Tantris wins the “Opening of the Year” award and two stars

The Tantris remains a gourmet temple.

The most well-known noble restaurant in Germany was rebuilt during the pandemic, now the Tantris cleared up the star award: The house not only won the new Michelin prize for the "Opening of the year".

There was a total of three stars for the Tantris, which is divided into two restaurants: Virginie Protat can look forward to one star in the DNA.

Benjamin Chmura, Hans Haas' successor, immediately earned two stars.

Chmura happy: "A dream come true."

Noble food without etiquette - that's the new trend in the cities.

This time, the Michelin Guide paid particular attention to restaurants that serve regional dishes in a casual atmosphere.

Now three restaurants with Michelin stars in Saxony-Anhalt

Robin Pietsch has made the Harz town of Wernigerode a focal point for gourmets in Saxony-Anhalt.

In the future, a house in Halle will also be able to adorn itself with a star.

"Atelier" in the Bayrischer Hof loses a star - the only three-star chef is located on Lake Tegernsee

The pressure was enormous for Anton Gschwendtner when he took over the three-star "Atelier" in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich in the summer.

As was to be expected, it was not possible to defend the three stars from his predecessor Jan Hartwig.

For the time being, the 37-year-old has to be content with two stars.

This makes Christian Jürgens (“Überfahrt” at Tegernsee) the only three-star chef in all of Bavaria.

Tohru Nakamura was awarded two Michelin stars – who has found his new place of work in “Tohru in der Schreiberei” in downtown Munich.

You can clearly see his joy at the award ceremony.

"The past 24 months have been characterized by ups and downs."

Star restaurants in Upper Bavaria:

  • Three stars: Christian Jürgens crossing at Tegernsee

  • Two stars: Es:senz in Grassau, Atelier, Tantris, Tohru in the writing, dining room, Alois Fine Dining (all Munich), Luce d'Oro, Restaurant Heinz Winkler in Aschau.

  • One star: Michael Leitenberg in Frasdorf, Mountain Hub Gourmet at the airport, Tantris DNA, Werneckhof Sigi Schelling, Mural, Schwarzreiter, Showroom, Sparkling Bistro, Tian, Acquarello, Les Deux (all in Munich), Schwinshackl Esskultur in Bad Tölz, Aubergine in Starnberg, Huberwirt in Pleiskirchen, gourmet restaurant poets and hooded diver at Tegernsee, Pur in Berchtesgaden, Camer's castle restaurant in Hohenkammer, Christian's restaurant in Kichdorf, the market restaurant in Mittenwald.

  • Green Star: Lochstein1 Berchtesgaden and Green Beetle Munich (both new).

Guide Michelin: Sigi Schelling is Munich's second star chef

In addition to Virginie Portat, there is another new star chef in the state capital: Sigi Schelling (45) had suspected that she would be awarded a star in Hamburg.

But she did not travel to the award ceremony.

The reason: "No time to celebrate." Your restaurant in the Werneckhof was too well booked on the day of the award ceremony, both for lunch and dinner.

The modest top chef only followed the award ceremony on her laptop.

The joy was still huge - "this is absolutely crazy," she told our editorial team on the phone.

Sigi Schelling, who worked alongside legendary chef Hans Haas for 14 years, got back to work in the afternoon: "But now we're moving on.

I'm ambitious.” The native Austrian doesn't want to settle for just one star.

The "Mountain Hub" at Munich Airport was given a star, which came as a complete surprise even to insiders.

According to the motto "Inspired by the Alps.

Break from business” is the kitchen chef Stefan Barnhusen (44).

Guide Michelin restaurants don't just have to be starred and expensive.
