The candidate of France Insoumise claims that his tax measures would save 150 million euros per year.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon maintains his hard line in terms of taxation.

In his tax project consulted by

Les Échos

, he details his "

revolution

" which would involve a sharp increase in taxes on the highest incomes.

Concretely, the candidate of France Insoumise (LFI) wants the tax brackets to be reviewed in depth: while there are currently 5, Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants 14. The highest bracket, which concerns people who earn more of 400,000 euros per year, would thus be taxed at 90%.

A proposal already put forward in 2017.

From now on, according to the teams of France Insoumise (LFI), the tax measures of the candidate should allow the State to collect an additional 150 million euros each year.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants in particular to put the rates of value added tax (VAT) back on the table, to lower it to 5.5% on basic necessities and inflate it on luxury products: it would be thus 33% on yachts or luxury cars.

Reduced inheritance tax

Concentrating his shots on high incomes, Jean-Luc Mélenchon also wants the tax base of the property tax to take into account all of the heritage of the owners.

A measure that would therefore increase the bill for multi-owners.

And would be added to a restoration of the ISF.

France Insoumise's tax program also provides for a reduction in inheritance tax, a subject that all presidential candidates have taken up in recent weeks.

According to

Les Échos

, this reduction would concern indirect transmissions, so that they obey the same rules as direct transmissions.

On the part of corporate taxation, Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants an overhaul of the system and the creation of a "

universal tax

", with the aim of fighting against fraud and tax optimization.

Companies that make profits abroad would be punctured by the difference between the French tax rate and that of the country where they are made.

In addition, the candidate wants a 50% tax on the “

exceptional

” profits made by certain companies during the pandemic.

According to an Elabe poll published on Tuesday, Jean-Luc Mélenchon would obtain 13% of the vote.

A breakthrough that would place him in third position, behind Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.

The candidate now imagines passing the bar of the first round: "

a Macron-Mélenchon second round is a completely different poster than a Macron-Le Pen or Macron-Zemmour

", he argued this Wednesday in front of an audience of journalists.
