Kaufering – Once again, the Lechtalbad has occupied the local recreation and bathing committee of the district council.

Stefan Studer from the Kannewischer planning office presented an expansion study for the Lechtalbad, which also has its downsides despite the positive number of visitors.

With the occupancy of "normal guests", schools and clubs, it has long since reached its upper limits.

And not only because of Corona there are also long waiting times for the swimming courses.

That is why the district office had commissioned the planning office, which specializes in pools, to carry out a study on how the indoor pool could be expanded moderately and adapted to the increased demands.

The committee was now confronted with the results.

It became clear that the indoor pool with its three pools and the small surrounding areas inevitably reached its capacity limits and could not offer a pleasant quality of stay for any of its diverse target groups.

The Lechtalbad has developed extremely positively since its beginnings in 1971 and has an excellent occupancy rate with a good 300,000 visitors per year.

The reason for this is the 70 percent increase in population in the city and district of Landsberg and growth in tourism of as much as 90 percent.

This also shows that schools and clubs have a greater potential for demand.

According to Studer, the number of visitors has even increased disproportionately in the last 15 years: in the bathroom by 75 percent and in the sauna by as much as 100 percent.

This is also due to the unique selling points such as the combination of indoor pool with natural outdoor pool, water attractions in the non-swimmer pool, the slide and the toddler pool as well as the sauna.

The construction of a fourth pool would equalize the different target groups and additional capacities could be created primarily for schools and swimming courses.

The "acoustic separation" also ensures a more pleasant quality of stay.

In the sports area, a 25 or 50 meter pool with more than five lanes, a diving pool with appropriate diving equipment and a course pool are possible.

The leisure area could be expanded with indoor and outdoor warm pools, an adventure pool with a flow channel, large slides, climbing opportunities or a steam bath.

The associated increase in visitor numbers would improve the economic result.

But it is also clear that the pool will continue to be operated by the district with a deficit.

It is currently subsidized with around half a million euros annually.

This means that the deficit per visitor is a maximum of two euros.

Depending on the variant, the investment required for the renovation of the current facilities and an extension to the south is up to 15 million euros.

The refurbishment of the current technology alone will cost around five million euros.

District Administrator Thomas Eichinger (CSU) saw the presentation by the Kannewischer office as the first step towards an expansion solution for the next 30 years under the premise of being financially viable.

Pool manager Thomas Zeck and Bernhard Lachner then presented a mind game for more income.

district business promoter.

Since the hereditary lease on the tennis and soccer hall next to the Lech Valley swimming pool expires next year, it could be demolished and a “mobile home port” built on the 4,000 square meters.

Up to 65 mobile homes would have space here and would generate constant income, as demand in this leisure and holiday segment is exploding.

The idea was well received by the committee members, especially since the campers could use the sanitary facilities of the Lechtalbad.
