We are one month away from the major deadline, and Putin's bombs have caused collateral damage: the French political debate, which, already prevented by the health crisis, is today paralyzed by the war in Ukraine which is mobilizing the political and media attention.
A president reinforced by his stature as a warlord, who prances at the top of the polls and crushes his competitors whatever the configuration of the second round, an exploded right which gives the spectacle of a cacophonous fight not at the level of the circumstances, a stunted and radicalized left which could perhaps reach the second round: French politics looks more like a field of ruins than a battlefield.
When History brings down its great ax again, when tanks reappear on the borders of Europe, and when civilians die, the French political debate can seem provincial, gesticulatory, derisory with regard to international issues.
