Ukraine has come to thwart the geopolitical projects of three successive American presidents.

Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden had all decided that Europe was no longer their priority.

The Cold War was over and the United States needed to direct its resources elsewhere.

All three have seen Ukraine bring them back.

Everyone reacted differently.

Obama by cautiously keeping his distance, Trump by trying to take personal advantage of it, and Biden by trying in vain not to be drawn into it.

Since the start of the Russian offensive, retrospective criticism began in Washington.

Some believe that massive American aid to this country could have dissuaded Russia from attacking.

Others consider that it was American interference that led to Russian aggression.
