A fighter sued the Ministry of Defense for mental damage caused to him throughout his work in the organization • "I participated in life-threatening operations abroad - my activity involved extraordinary tensions"

Very little has been revealed about the classified activities of the Mossad staff, and it is still clear to everyone that this is an abrasive profession with responsibilities and risks, and heavy mental stress.

Now, following a rare lawsuit filed with the Department of Defense for it to recognize an institutionalist as disabled with post-trauma, little has been revealed about what these undercover workers are going through.

At the medical committee, the former employee said that during his service at the institution he experienced a visual impairment, hearing loss, along with diabetes, post-trauma and a mental disorder.

"Prior to my enlistment I did not suffer from the defects listed above. I was healthy with no limit, in profile 97," he explained.

"The service at the institution was for me a mission - the work was intense, and was done under constant pressure," the former fighter told members of the medical committee.

“The work was around the clock, long days and nights, both in the country and abroad.

The operations I participated in were mostly carried out overseas, so I had to leave the children and family for extended periods.

"My activity involved exceptional tensions, at the risk of human life, and this activity I will not be able to disclose and detail, but only to a person with a security classification approved by the Prime Minister."

Indeed, after lengthy discussions in the committee, he was recognized as a post-trauma victim, and he will be defined as an IDF disabled person and will be entitled to all the conditions and social rights.

"After reviewing the evidence, the committee concluded that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurred during and as a result of your service in the Prime Minister's Office," wrote Tali Fischler, the Defense Ministry's Remuneration Officer.

A medical committee will now determine the degree of his disability as a result of his conditions of service, and a final decision on the matter will finally be made.

Advocate Eli Saban, who represents the Mossad official in the lawsuit, said that "this is a person who gave his best years to the state in secret service and in positions that cannot be expanded on them.

Today, in his old age after retiring, he needs help getting mental health care, and will now be able to get the help he needs for his mental distress.

"To the credit of the Rehabilitation Division it will be said, since one mental reform was implemented, it is operating at a relatively rapid pace, and thanks to the reform the same institution fighter will be recognized and all his rights within a few months," Saban added.

"The claim was based on the certificates of excellence he brought, so it is clear that his service was established and backed by very sensitive positions."
