A state of confusion prevails in decisions, positions and statements within the European Union regarding Russia

A state of confusion prevails in decisions, positions and statements within the European Union regarding the Russian Federation, while Britain tweets outside the flock and races in hostile attitudes against Russia over its mistress, the United States, which refuses to this day any direct clash with Moscow, while London is trying to implicate NATO in the Ukrainian crisis.

What the European Union Foreign Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell made about Western countries committing a number of mistakes in relations with Russia, especially depriving Russia of getting close to the West and its pledge to Ukraine to accept its accession to NATO, represents a state of contradiction in the policies of European countries, especially since this file It is a major reason for Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

Western hostile attitudes against the Russian Federation cannot be included in the basket of mistakes. Rather, it was a policy marred by some differences, but in the end, it was adopted by the Union and had its effects in the lifeline of European decision-making and in all political, economic and security aspects. For three decades, this policy prevented The establishment of European-Russian cooperation to ensure security, stability and free trade exchange between the countries of the old continent away from American influences.

Undoubtedly, the European position on the Russian military operation to protect the residents of Donbass is characterized by uncertainty and disparity due to the American pressure on it individually and collectively, and the damage caused to some economies of European countries as a result of the economic measures taken by Brussels and Washington against Russia, especially in the field of energy, technology, space and other strategic aspects. And the growing fears of the far-reaching catastrophic effects of these sanctions on Western economies, and consequently the public opinion's response to them later.

What Borrell mentioned came late and would not have any effect if it was not accompanied by quick steps from the leaders of European countries represented in reconsidering Western sanctions against Russia and working on Ukraine's line to convince it to meet the Russian conditions to protect Russian national security.

Likewise, the confusion in the European decision extends relations with Ukraine, which receives Brussels’ messages of escalation with Russia and refusal to respond to its conditions, and at the same time refuses Kyiv’s accession to the European Union.

In principle, Borrell's statements pave the way for a logical political dialogue within the European Union and can be considered a positive message to Moscow and an introduction to reversing the escalatory stances against it. This does not fall under the category of generosity of duty, but rather in an effort to avoid the great damage incurred by the Western economy and the inability of European capitals to compensate for Russian energy sources.

Also, Borrell’s announcement that the European Union has reached the maximum limit in financial sanctions against Russia without expressing any intention to stop its military operation before responding to its conditions carries with it the recognition of the failure of these sanctions to push the Russian leadership to retreat in the face of Western pressures, despite their comprehensiveness.

The Ukrainian crisis has revealed major weaknesses in the European Union, especially at the political and economic levels. There are countries that are extremist in their stances against Russia, while other countries take into account their interests and the risks of relations between the Russian and European parties reaching a point of clash, and all of this expands the open debate on the feasibility of continuing This union, which may be overthrown by major differences on the background of the Russian operation in Ukraine.

It is known that wars and battles end with a victor and a defeated or a negotiating table. I believe that Moscow's insistence on achieving its conditions in Ukraine will expedite the individual negotiating table, with all hope that it will lead to a world without hegemony or false slogans.
