The parts to be provided
Let's start with the beginning.
For a first passport application, it is now required to complete an online pre-application on the website of the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS).
You will then have to fill in several pieces of information, namely the reason for the pre-application, your marital status, information on your filiation, your nationality and your address.
It will also be necessary to provide a tax stamp (available online or in a tobacco shop) as well as a certain number of supporting documents, such as:
The pre-request number and/or the QR code obtained at the end of your process (to save time, we advise you to print the pre-request summary);
a passport photo less than 6 months old and similar;
proof of address less than 6 months old;
a national identity card valid or expired for less than 5 years.
If you do not have an identity card, you must provide a birth certificate less than 3 months old and if you do not have a valid birth certificate, proof of French nationality;
a fiscal stamp of 86 € for an adult, 42 € for a minor between 15 and 17 years old and 17 € for a minor between 0 and 14 years old.
If the passport application concerns a minor child, it will also be necessary to provide proof of residence of the parents less than 6 months old (original + photocopy) as well as an identity document of the parent making the request (original + photocopy).
Period of validity of a passport
Then, to finalize the process, you will have to make a first appointment at the town hall.
This will be responsible for checking the supporting documents and collecting your fingerprints.
Please note that not all town halls are equipped to receive you.

A second meeting at the town hall to pick up your new title will be necessary.
For a passport application for those under 18, the representative of parental authority (father, mother, guardian) must also be present and present an identity document.
From the age of 12, the minor must also be present.
The period of validity of a passport is 10 years for an adult, 5 years for a minor.
Another thing to know: when a minor becomes an adult, he does not need to redo his passport.
It then remains valid until the expiry date of the document.

Steps to take for a renewal
To renew your passport, the process is more or less the same.
As for the first application, you will then have to complete an online pre-application, provide the same documents (here the old passport), buy a tax stamp and make an appointment at a town hall to finalize the process.
Deadline for obtaining a passport
Normally, it takes 3 to 4 weeks between the online pre-application and obtaining the passport.
