Retired Supreme Court Justice and State Comptroller Eliezer Goldberg passed away this evening (Saturday) at the age of 90.
Judge Goldberg was born in May 1931 in Jerusalem.
In 1949, he graduated from the Rehavia Hebrew Gymnasium in Jerusalem.
Between the years 1952-1955 he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Interned in the office of the President of the Jerusalem District Court, Zvi Ali Becker. In 1957 he was certified as a lawyer. From 1964-1965 he served as a traffic judge in Jerusalem.
Between 1965-1974 he served as a judge of the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. In 1982, he was appointed Vice President of the Jerusalem District Court. In 1983, he served as an acting judge of the Supreme Court. In 1984, he was appointed a permanent judge of the Supreme Court. As chairman of the Criminal Procedure Committee.
In 1994, he served as a member of the Shamgar Committee to Investigate the Massacre in the Cave of the Patriarchs.
In 1997 he was chairman of the committee examining the construction of judicial discretion in sentencing after his retirement between 1998-2005 and served as State Comptroller and Ombudsman for Public Complaints against Judges.
