Venezuela today expressed its readiness to hold a dialogue with the United States and the European Union, provided that their sanctions and coercive economic measures are lifted and its legitimate government is recognized.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia said during his meeting with EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell that Venezuela is ready to start a peaceful dialogue with Europe, once again calling for the lifting of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the European Union on Caracas.
Plasencia added, "I hope that the Americans will respect the sovereignty and legitimacy of my government. President Nicolas Maduro is the only legitimate president of Venezuela."
He pointed out that his country did not expel American oil companies, but it was these companies that left, explaining that Venezuela now produces one million barrels of oil per day, and by the end of the year it expects to double this volume with reliable partners such as Russia, China and Iran.
