Near the epicenter of the earthquake, there are two nuclear power plants, including the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant and the Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant. The straight-line distance between the two and the epicenter is only about 50 kilometers.
Since the two nuclear power plants are very close to Hong Kong, some Hong Kong citizens are worried about whether the earthquake will affect the safety of the nuclear power plants.
According to the real-time radiation level data in Hong Kong provided by the Hong Kong Observatory, the average dose recorded by the 12 ambient gamma radiation level monitors established in Hong Kong after the earthquake was in a normal and stable state.
Among them, the Tung Ping Chau monitoring station located in the easternmost part of Hong Kong and closest to Daya Bay and Ling Ao recorded an average ambient gamma radiation dose rate of 0.09 microsievert/hour at 3:00 a.m., which was the same as the 2 a.m. before the earthquake. , the same dose was recorded; the same at nearby Tap Mun, while the Kat O monitoring station recorded 0.1 microsievert/hour at 3:00 a.m., the same as at 2:00 a.m.
The epicenter was about 50 kilometers away from the nuclear power plant.
