If you grew up with 'The Crystal Ball', Alaska is waiting for you to remember old times in 'Cinema neighborhood'

2022-03-13T05:29:11.161Z

We spoke with the presenter and with the director Machus Osinaga. They are the two women at the head of the veteran program of La 1, which already broadcasts films from the eighties and nineties

As much as it is difficult for some viewers to assume, mathematics does not admit discussion.

When

Cine de barrio

began in 1995, it offered films from 30 years before.

So now it's your turn to remember the ones that were just released then.

And even some that had not even been shot.

In other words, to the children who grew up with

The Crystal Ball

It is time for them to revisit their cinephile biography on occasional Saturday afternoons on La 1, as their grandparents did in their day.

Precisely Alaska, the presenter of the youth classic of the eighties, replaced Concha Velasco at the head of the cinematographic space in 2020. She and Machús Osinaga, its director since January 2022, lead the new stage of the program.

But, in those first releases, those by José Manuel Parada and the pianist Pablo Sebastian, they were already there.

Osinaga was as editor and Alaska as a faithful spectator.

The singer and presenter says she has a devotion to that old Spanish cinema.

“It is a small afternoon of social anthropology, where you see what the world was like in the past.

I make the program with a huge desire to defend all those producers, screenwriters, directors and even poster artists of the time.

It is something that I know and that I am passionate about, ”she comments from the set of Televisión Española where she records it.

“Memory is often very fragile and we want to preserve it.

While we vindicate those professionals who made films that were often unfairly reviled, we also bring new generations of artists to the set”, completes the new director.

On March 5, the film container passed the Rubicon for some viewers by broadcasting a title by Pedro Almodóvar for the first time,

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

(1988).

Thus, it embraced a new form of modernity, subsequent to that of the musical comedies of Rocío Dúrcal, Raphael and Concha Velasco herself.

La del Manchego is not the newest film in the

Cine de barrio

catalogue .

Before, the Saturday and evening program of La 1 had already programmed

Manolito Gafotas

(1999), adaptation of the Elvira Lindo novels.

Its release date borders the 2000s, when the cinemas stopped being in the neighborhoods and went to the shopping centers on the outskirts.

The new titles will coexist with those of a lifetime, those of Paco Martínez Soria and Lina Morgan.

With the passage of time, the opening to new cinematographic decades makes the space "become more transversal and eclectic", says Osinaga.

“As soon as we are careless, we could perfectly put on the family films of Santiago Segura.

The family cinema of the sixties is not the same as that of decades later.

The one from the nineties seems completely anachronistic to me, because it is so unfamiliar.

Sometimes I think it's further away from us than it was in the 1960s”, reflects Alaska.

She has also been a fan of neighborhood cinemas.

“My cinematographic education is thanks to them and to the film libraries.

Also, I was not born in Spain and I came here when I was 10 years old, so when I was a teenager I wanted to take a crash course on everything I had missed”, she recalls.

The veteran of

Neighborhood Cinema

after 27 years on the air also allows it to overcome some social barriers, such as age classification, Alaska points out: “The film we offered when Concha Velasco took over from me in 2020 was 'Las senoritas de mala company ' (1971), which in its time could not have been broadcast in our time slot.

There is still a lot of titles to recover”.

The return of Machús Osinaga to space is a way of closing a circle, since she is also the niece of one of the actors whom the program has honored in the past, Pedro Osinaga, who appeared in films such as

Amor bajo cero

(1960) .

.

“She was someone she adored.

She had a very special connection with him and was the person who opened the doors to cinema and theater for me,” she says.

The person in charge behind the camera of the current

Neighborhood Cinema

advances that they will continue to include “films that the whole family can see and that appeal to the most recent nostalgia”, while their hostess is looking forward to Christmas to remember idols from her television room past as Parcheesi.

As in all these previous years, the increasingly huge historical archive of RTVE helps them to continue preparing those social anthropology classes that they offer every week.

early morning cinema

The singer Alaska does not reject the idea that there is a format twinned with

Cine de barrio

dedicated to reviewing the musical past of our country.

“It is true that it is a part that we have already covered with some of the films in the program and that is also covered by other programs on Televisión Española, such as 'Cachitos' and 'Viaje al centro de la tele'.

But perhaps something is left scattered as it is, ”she points out.

In this year and a half in which she has been a presenter of the cinematographic space, she has launched several times on the air an idea with which to give it new life.

She dreams

of a neighborhood cinema at

dawn, in which to select for the viewer old horror movies dressed like Lily Munster or Morticia Adams, as happened in the programs of Elvira and her predecessor Vampira on American television.

“It is a bet that would be vocational, without the pretense of having very high audiences.

But, what would it cost if they gave us a slot at midnight on La 2? ”, She asks herself with a laugh.

"Spanish cinema has contributions in this subgenre that are priceless," she argues.

Machus Osinaga joins the proposal.

"With her, I'm going to the end of the world."
