The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that it had summoned the ambassador of Iran - a great ally and neighbor - to protest against the firing of missiles which hit Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.

The ministry denounces in a statement "
the flagrant violation of the sovereignty
" of Iraq and indicates that it "
summoned the ambassador to Iraq of the Islamic Republic of Iran

communicate to him the protests of the government on the missile strikes
" which resulted in "
material losses
" and "
damage to civilian facilities and citizens' homes
".
