Retirees in Germany have twice as high an old-age pension as pensioners.

Widows and widowers of civil servants are also better off financially in old age.

Wiesbaden – retirees are significantly better off than retirees*.

This is also confirmed by figures from the Federal Statistical Office.

On average, retirees receive 3160 euros gross.

Pensioners, on the other hand, come to an average of 1539 euros with 45 years of contributions - that's not even half.

.

This is also more than a pensioner gets on average.

The widow's and widower's benefit is paid to around 376,500 surviving dependents.

A total of around 1.36 million retirees received a payment from the state on January 1, 2021.

According to

, pensioners in Rhineland-Palatinate received the highest payment of an average of 3,600 euros, closely followed by Bavaria with 3,590 euros and Baden-Württemberg with 3,560 euros.

Pension: why do retired civil servants get more money?

Why are retired civil servants paid more than the average retiree?

This is because their pension depends on the number of years worked and the last salary.

Retirees receive 65.8 percent of their salary as civil servants when they retire.

For comparison: the pension level is about 48 percent (as of 2018) of the salary.

This number should be treated with caution, however, as it varies greatly from case to case.

The pension level refers to the ratio of the standard pension to the average earnings of all insured persons.

This standard pension is given to those who have always earned the current average wage and paid the pension contributions for 45 years.

And this can vary greatly depending on your life situation and job.

Also not included are, for example, company pensions and other payments that retirees receive in addition to the statutory pension* - depending on the individual precautionary measures they have taken.
