Although the fire was contained by the evening, it was not possible to extinguish it completely, which is why work continued on Sunday.

They are supported by five firefighting helicopters - also from Bavaria.

Around 35 hectares of land are now affected by the fire.

Danger of forest fires in Bavaria: No end to the drought in sight

According to the emergency services, the extinguishing work is very difficult because the area is steep and rocky.

This makes fighting fires from the ground almost impossible.

Strong winds also fuel the fire again and again.

How long the extinguishing work will continue is currently not foreseeable.

Meanwhile, an end to the drought is not in sight.

According to estimates by meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD), there will be hardly any rain in Bavaria in the foreseeable future.

Weather expert Dominik Jung has already predicted a drought in March.

However, winter could return with a bang after that.
