Mia Lachmann from Karpfhofen, the oldest citizen of the municipality of Indersdorf, celebrated her 102nd birthday.

For a long life there is probably an insider tip.

Karpfhofen – Mia Lachmann from the Karpfhofen district of Indersdorf celebrated her 102nd birthday with her family.

She is the oldest citizen in the market town and is still mentally fit.

Unfortunately, she has problems with her feet, hearing and vision.

But that doesn't stop her from singing every day, because she hasn't lost her sense of humor despite many strokes of fate in her long life.

She keeps up to date with the television, and the war in the Ukraine weighs heavily on her.

Born in Lower Silesia, she once belonged to the large group of refugees who had to leave their homeland in July 1946 without warning.

At that time, she and her two small daughters walked to the train station in Lauban, five kilometers away, and were only allowed to take 20 kilos of luggage with them.

At that time, English soldiers loaded the expellees into goods and cattle wagons.

The fear of the war (her husband Heinz was in American captivity) and the threat of Polish militias were her constant companions during this time, until finally in the late summer of 1946 the family reunification in Schwabhausen was successful.

The Lachmann family had to move several times in the years that followed because Mia Lachmann's husband Heinz, who was a police officer, often had to change offices.

The Lachmann family kept growing.

Four girls and four boys were added.

In 1968 a new home was finally found in Karpfhofen.

The Lachmanns tore down the old house there in 1980 and built a terraced house.

And there the now 102-year-old tended a large vegetable garden for many years together with her husband, who died in 2008.

Mia Lachmann had to suffer another stroke of fate when her daughter Dagmar died at the age of only 35.

What still makes her happy are songs from her homeland and Bavarian-Bohemian brass band music.

It was already her wish on her 100th birthday to have a brass band play.

But because that was not possible in 2020 and 2021 for various reasons (including Corona), her wish was granted on her 102nd birthday.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Dachau newsletter.

Her son Siegfried is at the source: he beats the big drum in the Schwabhausen brass band and is also the singer in this brass band.

The neighbors on Dorfstraße were amazed when the sounds of brass band music could be heard shortly before dusk.

Mia Lachmann, who was enjoying the marches and songs from home from the terrace, suddenly stopped feeling the cold wind and sang along vigorously when the musicians began singing "Hohe Tannen", "I return once to my homeland again" and the homeland march.

Of course, the well-known piece "Happy Birthday" could not be missing from the repertoire of the Schwabhauser.

The 13 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren were also given the appropriate opportunity to congratulate grandma.

Son Armin, who has been caring for his mother for a long time, learned that Mia Lachmann, at the age of 102, still enjoys a shot of eggnog every day before she goes to bed.

Perhaps an insider tip for an extremely long life.
