“A Butterfly of Iron” an event on the occasion of International Women’s Day, in which the Roots Association, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, honored 8 distinguished women who were able to overcome difficulties and realize their dreams in various fields, at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, explained to SANA that the honored women demonstrated the ability of Syrian women to defy difficulties despite all the circumstances they went through of suffering in daily life, noting that the stories of these women are a lesson and it is useful to spread it to society for the benefit of all women who have similar experiences .
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kholoud Rajab Association indicated that choosing the name of the event came to highlight women who have achievements in life and were able to outdo themselves in many stages, noting that the honored women proved a really big role in society and continued despite all difficulties.
Among the honorees, Alaa Al-Durra, a breast cancer survivor, said, "She was able to overcome the disease that was in an advanced stage and completed the treatment phase and had a young child and was able to complete her studies in the kindergarten department despite her illness, which she received treatment at the free Al-Biruni University Hospital," pointing out to That this honor is “psychological support that enhances will and determination.”
For her part, Shadia Halaby explained that she was in a car accident that resulted in a major deformity in the face and underwent 4 plastic surgeries, but she was able to study plastic medicine and establish large clinics in this specialty in Damascus, noting that her ambition in the future is to build a charitable hospital to treat people with similar cases.
And she added, "The honor contributed to her feeling in communicating her message that willpower makes the impossible possible."
Among the honored women, Saba Ba'aj, a poet from Deir ez-Zor, said, "She was able to establish a poetry team for children under the name (Poetry Team) concerned with Arabic poetry and the cultural heritage in Syria among children who have the gift of recitation and are interested in poetry," noting that her achievement was despite all difficulties. She was subjected to and displaced from her home by terrorist groups.
