A foundation is now to be set up for the planned student research center in Miesbach.

Time is of the essence: the sponsor would now like to bring in his donation as quickly as possible.

District

– District Treasurer Gerhard de Biasio made no secret of the urgency.

"The matter is burning under our nails," he said at the meeting of the district committee.

"We have to create facts before the sponsor jumps off." What was meant were the student research center in Miesbach and the Tegernsee entrepreneur Thomas Strüngmann, who is known to be providing 500,000 euros for the project.

A foundation is now to ensure the establishment and maintenance.

The district has agreed to assume the sponsorship and the costs for material expenses and the so-called Mint Manager for a further four years.

The student research center is housed in the former Miesbach hospital, which in turn belongs to the city.

Both work hand in hand on the matter.

The foundation, in turn, is the prerequisite for ensuring that the promised large donation actually goes through and that further donations can be taken into account in the future.

The district has nothing to do with the foundation after it was founded

The district will not take care of the “Foundation for Student Research Center Oberland” itself and will no longer have anything to do with it once it has been established.

It is a sub-foundation of the donor community of the Kreissparkasse Miesbach-Tegernsee, which is managed by Deutsche Stiftungtreuhand AG.

"A foundation of the district is not wanted because, among other things, it would have to be presented in our budget," the district treasurer explained to the committee members.

Of course, the district does not give up its influence on the project itself.

Permanent members of the board of trustees are the district administrator and the mayor of Miesbach, as well as one representative each from the business association, the district savings bank and the location marketing company (SMG).

The founding founder, i.e. the district, appoints Ilse Aigner, president of the state parliament, and Klaus Sedlbauer, head of the Fraunhofer Institute in Oberlaindern, as further members.

Aigner had recently been very committed to the project and also landed the large donation.

Sedlbauer takes over the scientific management of the student research center.

The district administrator has other donors in prospect

The committee members agreed with the procedure.

The district council will have to make the final decision next week.

"It's a good thing, we should now find more donors," said Thomas Tomaschek (Greens).

District Administrator Olaf von Löwis (CSU) indicated that he was already considering further donors.

"In recent years it was a bit piecemeal and very vague to see through," Rottach's mayor Christian Köck (CSU) alluded to the Fablab research laboratory and the Mint manager based at SMG.

"It's good that the facility is now getting a physical home and is on good terms."

You can work with that.

"The initial spark was the endowment money," admitted Löwis.

The large donation caused a need for action.

Part of the money remains untouched

The foundation contract currently stipulates that 20 percent of the donations remain untouched as the basis and 80 percent can be used for the purpose of the foundation.

However, the district administrator as chairman is authorized to change this subsequently.

"It is important to the founder that as much of his donation as possible is used," said Löwis when asked by Josef Bierschneider (CSU).

This point will be discussed again later in the Board of Trustees.

Of course there are limits: According to the articles of association, at least ten percent of the sum must remain in the basic assets for a period of ten years.
