Thousands of people follow what Theresa Singer does: in the barn, in the pasture, on the tractor - and sometimes also privately: As an agricultural influencer, the master agriculturalist from Hofheim takes almost 9000 followers on Instagram into her world and takes a position.
Hofheim
– She sees her mission as “public relations”.
Only in a contemporary form, with the possibilities offered by social media.
Theresa Singer digitally opens stable doors and gates via her Instagram channel to educate about agriculture, correct false negative impressions, convey a real, unvarnished picture of her work and enter into dialogue.
"You can talk to us instead of about us," says Hofheimerin.
Theresa Singer always has her smartphone with her
With her father Gottfried she runs the Sandlhof, a dairy farm with 50 cows and offspring.
The smartphone is always with you.
The 29-year-old needs it in her daily work and she uses it to let her followers participate: with photos, videos, information, points of view.
Singer shows how she helps bring calves into the world, how she lets the offspring drink milk, takes soil samples and drives the tractor.
"Cows on the pasture, animal husbandry and farm machinery are doing well," she says.
In addition, she grants private insights, can also be seen in normal clothes and makes no secret of the fact that she plays the clarinet, guitar and some harp.
"That's part of me as a person who stands behind agriculture."
110,000 people see a statement
Singer began on a small scale: with photos, maybe a quote.
And noticed: As soon as "you show your face and make things more personal", the degree of dissemination increases.
The master farmer is good at speaking, formulating, paraphrasing her views.
"But if I had to talk to 8,500 people in the beer tent, I wouldn't get a sound out." She has almost 9,000 followers on Instagram.
It was "definitely not planned that way".
If she posts something, she does it alone with her smartphone, often spontaneously, and doesn't think too much about the fact that a lot of people are following what she does, what opinions she represents.
It sometimes happens that strangers speak to you, "but mostly nice and consistently positive".
A proud 110,000 people saw the post when Singer commented on the animal welfare slogan of a large discounter.
"Murder numbers" among the followers are not important to her, she emphasizes.
What counts for her is that she puts her facts in front of people and reads her posts.
She doesn't aim to be an influencer, "that's not my calling.
I am a farmer".
But she uses this platform to bring her world closer to consumers.
Corona with its restrictions allowed this communication idea to mature in Singer, who used to address people in the supermarket.
Social media enabled her to do "public relations" and make contact even in times of a pandemic.
She wants to show "how we do agriculture, what connections there are, why something has developed how".
Singer thinks that the focus in the media is often on negative aspects on a very emotional level.
that she puts down her facts, that people read her posts.

Farmer publishes opinion on wolves and chick killing
The woman from Hofheim does not avoid hot irons.
She posts her opinion on the tension between wolves and grazing as well as on killing chicks.
Instagram users who are interested in such topics also inquire about the platform.
The most critical points relate to animal husbandry, says Singer: "Why do calves come away from the cow, why are some cows not allowed to graze?" Sometimes the 29-year-old, who also works for the Spatzenhauser Bauhof, wonders where negative attitudes come from.
She herself has "never experienced a shit storm" - and basically thinks: If you are not interested in a topic, you should not read it.
You can't please everyone anyway.

Agricultural influencer: underwear photos are out of the question
Singer, who also includes advertising, does not provide too deep personal Instagram insights.
Anyone hoping for underwear photos or pictures of a sexy country woman in front of large machines, as some influencers offer on their profiles, will not find anything with her.
"But if someone wants to show that, that's fine." So live and let live.
So far the digital thing is a lot of fun
Singer enjoys the digital thing and sees value in it, so she's sticking with it.
"So far I'm not annoyed." If this happens, "I can take a break".
That would probably not be as noticeable as with stars of the scene, who have a six-digit number of followers.
"I," says Theresa Singer, "am still too insignificant in this strange world."
