Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the body responsible for enforcing restrictions in the EU today (Tuesday) officially declared sanctions against the Russian-Jewish oligarch Roman Abramovich, putting him on the "blacklist" in light of his proximity to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The tycoon is the former owner of English football club Chelsea.

"Roman Abramovich is a Russian oligarch with long and close ties to Vladimir Putin. He had a privileged attitude toward the president, and he maintained very good relations with him," the document said.
"This connection with the Russian leader has helped him maintain considerable wealth," they added while accusing Moscow administration officials of "undermining stability in Ukraine."

As you may recall, Britain announced on Thursday the freezing of Abramovich's assets, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson declaring that his country "could not be a safe haven for those who supported Putin's vicious attack on Ukraine".
In response, Yad Vashem announced the suspension of its partnership with the oligarch after donating tens of millions of dollars to the Holocaust Remembrance Organization, several days before the Russian invasion and the start of the war.

In addition to Abramovich, a number of other oligarchs were blacklisted on Tuesday, including German Kahn, a Russian businessman who is considered one of Russia's most influential people, and the owner of Alfa Group, one of the country's largest investment houses.
The oligarch Roman Abramovich was documented in Israel
As documented exclusively in "Israel Today", Abramovich's plane left Israel yesterday.
The tycoon is seen in the Fattal Lounge at Ben Gurion Airport, apparently waiting for his private plane.
