Anna S. from Gelsenkirchen had been missing since June 2019.

Although her killer has since been convicted, there has been no trace of her body.

Now she was discovered walled in in the basement.

Krefeld (NRW) - Late certainty for the family of Anna S.: The body of the nanny from Gelsenkirchen, who has been missing for three years, was found on Monday, walled in in the basement of her murderer.

Six months after the 35-year-old disappeared, the police arrested a 46-year-old from Gelsenkirchen as a suspect.

He has since been convicted of murder and is in prison.

Anna S.'s brother-in-law had spoken to Merkur.de about the police investigation.

Krefeld: Woman's body found in the basement - Missing Anna S. was killed by an ex-boyfriend

The autopsy on Tuesday showed without a doubt that the body found in the basement was Anna S., said the police and public prosecutor in Essen.

The Gelsenkirchen woman was probably suffocated.

The finding of Anna S.'s corpse no longer had any effect on the case, her murderer is already in custody.

The investigators came across Anna S.'s ex-boyfriend and later found pictures of the dead on his computer.

The murder victim was then seen in the perpetrator's apartment.

In addition, the man had searched the Internet for the topics "suffocation" and "corpse odor".

According to the judges in Essen, the man had killed his ex-girlfriend because he could not accept the fact that she had broken up with him.

For this he had been sentenced to the maximum penalty: life imprisonment with a particularly serious degree of guilt and subsequent preventive detention.

Krefeld: woman's body walled up in the basement - Anna S. was not the first victim

The man had previously been in prison for the murder of a woman and then met Anna S. six months after his release.

According to the investigation, the woman broke up with him when she found out about her partner's life lies.

“He has absolutely no empathy and no guilt whatsoever.

For him it is normal that he is allowed to kill the women who want to separate from him," said the presiding judge in Essen at the sentencing in December 2020.

"The danger for any woman who gets involved with the accused of being killed sooner or later is obvious."

The Essen public prosecutor's office did not want to say on Tuesday why the body was only discovered almost three years later in the murderer's home despite extensive search measures.

She did not want to confirm that it was a caretaker who gave the crucial clue.

The authority did not give any reasons for this.
