Kherson, the first city in Ukraine to fall into the hands of Russian troops who sprung from the Crimean peninsula on March 4, has since been cut off from the rest of the country.
Outward travel is restricted, supplies of essentials are hampered and long queues have formed outside stores.
Telephone communications are blocked, as are Ukrainian television programs, which have been replaced by Russian channels.
But, according to several residents of the city interviewed by secure messaging, this heavy cover does not prevent the inhabitants from challenging the occupying army.
“Every day or so, demonstrators meet to chant together: Kherson is part of Ukraine,”
testifies Andriy Froul, an anesthesiologist at the regional hospital.
