Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross - First Driving

2022-03-15T06:54:56.248Z

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is getting a round of changes ahead of the new model year. We went out to drive it as part of the local launch. The capability has indeed been improved, including one of the main complaints we had to the model. Welcome Photo: Tomer Feder

More or less four years have passed since the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was first introduced.

The recreational vehicle has a coupe-like design, driven by a powerful supercharged engine.

The unique design also hid a slight disruption.

The design of the rear included a kind of wing that crossed the rear window.

The result was a significant retrospective limitation.

So after 7,146 such rear window windows, sold here, for the 2022 models, there is a clear difference from the first second.

The new design at the back not only solves the visibility issue, it also looks much more homogeneous and appropriate.

Also up front the design is different and more impressive, adapting itself to the latest language familiar from other new Mitsubishi models.

Under the elliptical cross design still uses the same base that used the outgoing Outlander, but now the overall length has grown significantly (14cm) and even the ventral spacing has improved.

What's new?

Of course the trunk, for example, comes out benefiting from such growth in dimensions.

In total, it now shows a larger volume by about 20 percent.

Regarding the equipment of the models that arrive in Israel, there has been an improvement as well.

For example, at all finish levels there is full LED lighting today.

18-inch lightweight rims are also available for all trim levels, if you wanted another example.

And as in the past, you can find the supercharged 1.5L engine here.

The power dropped in this facelift to 153 hp, while Mitsubishi states the torque figure, 25.4 kg, and declares that it is already achieved at 1,800 rpm.

The power is transferred to the front wheels or to dual propulsion (depending on the version) with the help of a continuous gearbox with 8 "virtual" transmission ratios.

According to the manufacturer, changes have been made to the suspension system in order to improve restraint while driving in order to improve the feeling while driving.

on the road

The Eclipse Cross continues to look great, with the design continuing to be a clear strength here.

Especially in the "diamond red" color that was brewed for this model that was originally presented.

The cabin also feels more up-to-date, thanks in part to the operation of the multimedia system alongside the waiver of the touchpad that was here in the past.

The driving position is quite high, and the feeling is spacious.

We would have been happy to have more height adjustment capability, for the steering wheel.

It moves in all directions of course, but personally we would have been happy for a little more range in height.

On the road the Eclipse Cross feels pretty good.

There is good control of the slings in the weight, proper absorption and the result is definitely good.

On the day of the test winds prevailed and at high speed the wind noise was present.

The engine is still meaty, but less impressive than the one coming out under load.

Within the city the absorption of most of the disturbances is effective, that sharp hazards will subdue the relatively low tire cross-section.

On our rather brisk ride, the Eclipse recorded 12.1 km / l.

The Bottom Line

The Eclipse update is quite comprehensive and also touches on important areas like safety equipment.

With the exception of the discounted Intensity version (designed for vehicle fleets) the Eclipse comes here with all the safety systems that Global Mitsubishi offers with it.

The real news is expected to bring here its PHEV version, which will arrive here in the future.

With 224 hp, smart dual propulsion, various driving modes and the ability to move on electric power for a range of 45 km, it will present a new meaning to this impressive packaging.
