In the case of Peggy Knobloch, there are still many unanswered questions.

RTL + has now released a series on the case.

Lichtenberg – For years, the case of the missing nine-year-old Peggy Knobloch from Lichtenberg near Bayreuth caused a stir.

RTL has now released a documentary series on the case for its streaming portal RTL +: "Missing Peggy" can be seen from March 14th.

In the documentary series, the case is illuminated from the beginning to the provisional end.

Little Peggy disappeared on May 7th, 2001, the documentary follows the investigation and family life afterwards until the child's remains were found in July 2016.

The suspicion that arose early on about Peggy's own mother is also dealt with in the series.

Peggy Knobloch: Mother gives emotional interview for new documentary

As part of the series, both Peggy's mother, Susanne Knobloch, and her younger sister Jasmin give an emotional interview.

Among other things, Susanne Knobloch tells of the last words her daughter addressed to her before the nine-year-old disappeared: "I forgot something else, I forgot something important: I love you, Mom!" Peggy's mother remembers Tears in my eyes and a breaking voice: "If I had known that this was the last..."

She was suspected of having made her own daughter disappear, among other things, because of a statement to the emergency services: "What if you find her now and she really ran away," she explains in an interview at the time: " Then who pays for all this?”

Peggy Knobloch: Your mother was suspected

Immediately after a press conference, she was taken away by the police and questioned.

However, it has never been proven that she could have had anything to do with the crime.

Officials couldn't find a motive or a possible time that Peggy's mother could have made her daughter disappear.

Nine-year-old Peggy disappeared on her way home from school in the spring of 2001.

"It was only nine years," says her mother in an interview.

"Nine beautiful years - but I would have liked to have had much, much more with her."

Peggy Knobloch: Mushroom picker found human remains

On July 2, 2016, a mushroom picker found parts of a human skeleton in a wooded area about twelve kilometers as the crow flies from Peggy's hometown of Lichtenberg.

After a DNA analysis, it was clear: he had found the mortal remains of little Peggy.

Peggy's mother wasn't the only one who gained terrible certainty from this.

Her younger sister Jasmin, who was just three years old when Peggy disappeared and is now in her mid-20s, also knows for sure from this point on: Her big sister will never come home again.

Peggy Knobloch: Younger sister in an interview

In the RTL interview, the young woman tells how she had waited in vain for Peggy at the time.

"All I know is that I didn't want to go to bed and stayed on the couch," she recalls.

"Because I said I'd only go upstairs and sleep when Peggy got back."

She didn't really understand what happened: "I thought she was on her way," says Jasmin Knobloch.

Since then she has never been in her children's room again.

"Because it was a togetherness between me and Peggy.

She wasn't there and I didn't know when she would be back, so I stayed on the couch."

Peggy Knobloch: Family can't end it

It is not possible to conclude with this.

"And it doesn't get any better," explains Jasmin Knobloch.

Something would always be missing.

"To accept that ... not even after 20 years," agrees Susanne Knobloch.

“There are very often moments where I wish that had never happened.

That everything would just have been the same.

That she's still here and that we've spent our lives together up until now," explains Jasmin Knobloch.

"I wish she was still there." (
