A man has been charged with attempted murder for beating an Asian woman more than 125 times last week in New York state, in what police have described as a "brutal hate crime" and which was recorded on video. chilling video.

Tammel Esco, 42, was arrested and charged with calling a 67-year-old woman "Asian p----", following her into a building and severely beating her Friday in Yonkers, north of the city of New York.

Esco was charged with attempted hate crime murder and one count of hate crime assault.

He was arraigned on Saturday and remains in custody at the Westchester County Jail.
