On Sunday, Kornichuk met with Yad Vashem chairman Danny Dayan and asked him to allow a multi-participant rally with MKs, mayors and public figures where Zalansky would deliver a video speech. Yad Vashem officials said Dayan expressed sympathy with Ukraine during the meeting. However, a
senior Ukrainian government official noted that the background to Kornichuk's meeting at Yad Vashem was President Zalanski's desire to speak directly to the people of Israel, Zalansky hopes that, as in other countries in the world, his speech will influence public opinion to push the leadership to increase support for Ukraine.

In a meeting with Dayan, the Ukrainian ambassador emphasized that the speech at Yad Vashem is not a substitute for Zalanski's speech in the Knesset, but a parallel track.
He noted that Zalansky was interested in speaking at Yad Vashem both because he was Jewish and because he believed that what Russia was doing in Ukraine was genocide, and that Yad Vashem had been established to commemorate genocide.
A Yad Vashem source said that Dayan objected to the ambassador's use of the term genocide and the frequent comparisons Ukraine makes between the situation in the country and the Holocaust - comparisons that Yad Vashem could not serve as a platform and made it clear that he did not Ukraine.
Dayan and the Ukrainian ambassador agreed to continue discussing the matter in the coming days.
At this stage, the chances of an event at Yad Vashem in the format that the Ukrainian president wants are low.
