A 48-year-old military doctor from Ukraine died in battles with Russia, leaving 12 children behind, the British Daily Mail reported.

The doctor, Olga Sidyanova, has served in the state army since 2014 and was killed in a shootout near Donetsk on March 3.

Her family members say they were unable to collect her body due to the fighting.

According to Sidyanova's family, she was killed by gunfire in her stomach.

Her daughter, Julia, told the British Sun that "she saved the soldiers to the end. We have pictures from the place of death - but because of heavy fighting we still can not bury my mother."

The doctor, who won the honorary title of "Heroic Mother", gave birth to six biological children and adopted six more from a local orphanage.

She lives in the town of Marhantes, about 150 miles from where she was killed earlier this month.
