The corona pandemic continues to have a major impact on the district clinic.

The ban on visits is therefore maintained.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Between mid-February and early/mid-March, the incidence of corona slowly decreased.

The hospital reports that there were many admissions and discharges at that time, so there was a relatively high dynamic.

Nevertheless, the daily number of treatments was relatively stable with around 20 patients in the normal ward and an average of two patients in the intensive care unit.

"There was hope that the corona situation would ease," says a statement.

Rising incidence

"Unfortunately, this hope has been dashed with the increasing incidences in the district," says Nursing Director Wilhelm Huber.

As of today (March 17), there are 31 corona-positive people in the normal ward and three in the intensive care ward;

one of these had to be ventilated.

A patient had just been transferred to another clinic for ECMO therapy.

Therefore, two wards - instead of just one as in the past few weeks - are now blocked purely for the admission of covid-positive patients, and another ward for suspected cases is about to be blocked.

"This reduces our inpatient capacities, which would be necessary to carry out elective treatments," says Medical Director Dr.

Florian Weiss.

peak of failures

“In addition, we have also recorded a peak in the number of staff absenteeism.

These are due to both Covid and other diseases as well as quarantine measures," adds Nursing Director Huber.

Therefore, the clinic has to reduce planned treatments until further notice in order to be able to provide capacities for emergencies, urgent treatments and the care of Covid19 patients.

Great expense

The clinic reports that 135 Covid-positive patients have been treated since the beginning of February.

"Even if we hardly observe any severe courses with the need for intensive care, especially in boosted patients, the organizational effort in the clinic is still very high due to the tests, isolation measures and additional protective measures of the staff and our employees are still heavily burdened by the pandemic, says white.

For these reasons, the clinic management does not see itself in a position to lift the ban on visits in the house: "We are aware of the implications of a ban on visits for relatives and our patients, but we see the current development of incidences and especially in the context of the more contagious BA.2 variant no other option.”
