In 2021, citizens said goodbye to the old public baths.

13,500 euros in donations were collected – this should give children a free swimming course.

Nuremberg - Last year, the citizens of Nuremberg were able to say goodbye to the old public baths.

Good money was raised: "The proceeds after the four farewell days at the public baths were an incredible 13,500 euros," Mayor Christian Vogel is quoted as saying in a press release from the city.

The money will benefit financially weaker families.

"We pay for swimming courses for their children to learn how to swim," it continues.

This is enormously important, because many children and young people are still drowning.

Nuremberg: Nuremberg citizens said goodbye to the old public baths

Last year, citizens were able to say goodbye to the old public baths for four days.

Among other things, guided tours were offered and a few things were for sale - including doors and tiles.

More than 2,000 people wanted to visit the old public baths again.

Nuremberg: Swimming courses should still take place this year

The BRK, the Post SV water polo players and the Flipper swimming school take care of the swimming training.

Each organization received a sum of 4,500 euros.

Stefan Gallitz from the Flipper swimming school, Marc Steinberger from the Post SV water polo club and Markus Knopf from the district water rescue service thanked them for the donation in the message.

This gives the clubs the opportunity to teach around 150 children how to swim.

The free swimming courses are to take place later this year.
