Due to the increasing number of corona cases, many federal states want to extend their corona measures.

This also makes vacation planning in Germany more difficult.

Actually, a large part of the Corona measures should expire nationwide on March 20 *.

The corresponding draft for the new Infection Protection Act stipulates that the obligation to wear masks and tests should be omitted except for a few areas - "Freedom Day" was within reach in Germany.

Now some federal states are rowing back.

They want to make use of the transition period, which allows the corona measures to be extended until April 2nd.

The background is that in this country the incidences and the number of deaths have been increasing again for a few days.

For travelers, this means: There is a risk of a patchwork quilt again as far as the Corona regulations are concerned.

Vacation in Germany: Corona rules are being extended in many federal states

The vast majority of federal states have already announced that they want to extend their corona measures for the time being.

Others have not yet commented on this.

In the overview you can see what is currently planned in some countries.

  • Baden-Württemberg

: In Baden-Württemberg they want to make use of the transitional period until April 2nd.

The 3G rule in restaurants and the 2G rule for discotheques will remain in place.

For the time being, the upper limit for people should only be dropped at events.

  • Bavaria

: The 2G-plus rule should apply in clubs and discotheques until April 2nd, and the 3G rule in hotels and restaurants.

Events have an occupancy limit of 75 percent, for sporting events it is 50 percent.

  • Berlin

has decided to extend the measures until March 31st.

This means that the 3G rule applies to hotels and restaurants.

  • Brandenburg

: The state government has largely extended the corona measures until April 2nd, as reported by the

    Märkische Allgemeine

    .

However, as of March 18, 3G proof for visiting hotels, for bus trips, boat trips and city tours as well as for body-related services will no longer be available.

In the future, 2G instead of 2G-plus will apply to visiting clubs and discos.

The upper limit for spectators and capacity restrictions for major events are to fall.

The mask requirement indoors should remain in place for the time being - but a medical mask is sufficient.

  • Bremen

: Bremen also does not want to relax the corona rules before April 2nd.

The 3G rule applies in gastronomy and hotels.

  • Hamburg

has decided to extend the current corona measures.

This means that 3G proof is still mandatory for overnight stays in accommodation establishments.

FFP2 masks are compulsory in closed public rooms.

  • Hesse

also wants to extend the corona measures.

The 2G plus rule applies to clubs and discos.

Passengers must wear a mask on public transport.

The contact restrictions for unvaccinated people are to be lifted and the capacity restrictions for events and in discotheques are to be lifted, as reported by the

    Ärzte Zeitung

    .

  • Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

: The existing corona measures are to be extended.

This means that masks are still compulsory indoors with public traffic and in local public transport.

Depending on the infection situation, the 3G or 2G rule applies to clubs, and there is also a utilization limit of 50 percent.

  • Lower Saxony

: According to the current status, Lower Saxony also wants to extend most of its corona measures until April 2nd.

However, it is planned to end contact restrictions for the unvaccinated and capacity restrictions at major events*, as reported by

    kreiszeitung.de

    .

  • North Rhine-Westphalia

is also using the transition period until April 2nd.

In most areas, visitors must present a 3G ID, with the exception of clubs, discotheques or folk festivals - a 2G ID is required here.

Masks are compulsory in local public transport and indoors.

  • Rhineland-Palatinate

has decided to extend the Corona measures until April 2nd.

That means: The 3G rule applies in hotels and restaurants and the mask requirement remains in place in supermarkets, at authorities, in local public transport and in hospitals.

  • Saarland

: The federal state wants to extend the Corona requirements until March 31st.

Hotel and restaurant visitors must therefore present 3G proof, as must the same for boat or bus trips.

If you visit a club, you need a 2G ID.

The mask requirement applies in public, closed rooms as well as in local public transport.

  • Saxony

: In principle, the corona measures should remain in place here until April 2nd.

Only contact and capacity restrictions should fall from March 18th.

The FFP2 mask requirement applies in local public transport, but the 3G rule should come to an end.

Apart from that, the FFP2 mask requirement applies in publicly accessible indoor areas.

  • Thuringia

: also sticks to the existing measures until April 2nd.

The 3G rule therefore applies in restaurants and the 2G rule in clubs.

The mask requirement also remains in place for retail, restaurants and public events.

Corona rules in Germany: Observe the hotspot rules

Even if the transition period is over after April 2nd, the federal states should still have the opportunity to impose additional conditions and restrictions depending on the infection process.

If there are very high numbers of corona cases in certain regions or cities, the federal states concerned may

also introduce a mask requirement, distance requirements or 3G or 2G rules for these areas according to the

“hotspot” regulation .

Holidaymakers should therefore always find out before they arrive whether their destination is considered a "hotspot".

However, there are currently no precise regulations as to when an area should be classified as a hotspot.
