The 53-year-old, who escaped from preventive detention in Fuhlsbüttel, returned to the prison after exactly one week.
The Hamburg authority for justice and consumer protection announced that he appeared at the door of the JVA on Friday evening and turned himself in.
The man had escaped during an exit on Friday last week - for the third time.
Hamburg – In 2008 he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison followed by preventive detention for serious extortion and carrying a weapon.
Already in 2017 and 2021, the prisoner had escaped from prison, as the Hamburg interior authority had announced.

On Friday last week, the 53-year-old was allowed to stay outside the Fuhlsbüttel prison with a police officer for several hours.
On the way back to the JVA, however, he had left and escaped.
The easing serves to prepare for the release, so that life without punishment in freedom can be tried out.
However, if this does not succeed, the process takes correspondingly longer.
"The flight will be taken into account in future decisions regarding the relaxation of prison sentences," said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office on Monday.
