The political system paid tribute today (Friday) to Rabbi Kanievsky, one of the greatest members of the ultra-Orthodox community, who passed away after falling ill in recent days and collapsing in his home.
"I am saddened by the bitter news with the rise of the great man of the generation and the Minister of Torah, Rabbi Chaim Kanevsky to the treasures of deceit," said President Yitzhak Herzog.
"The rabbi made sure to always welcome every person with an open heart and light eyes," added Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
President Herzog continued to pay tribute to the rabbi.
"The love of the Torah, his modesty, his humility and his spiritual leadership will be missed by the yeshiva world and the entire people of Israel," he wrote, delivering his "sincere condolences to his family, students and loved ones."
Prime Minister Bennett said he "deeply regretted the news of the death of the greatest of the generation."
He wrote that Kanievsky was "a true public leader, who from his humble home in Bnei Brak led tens of thousands of the people of Israel - wisely, with common sense, with rare proficiency."
Bennett described his participation in "the family's grief at the heavy mourning."
